Gait Analysis and Running Injury Screening

Running analysis is a useful tool to help you recover from and prevent injury, and to enhance your running performance.

This screening appointment is two hours in length and looks to assess your current running gait and physical characteristics. By building up an accurate profile of how you move as a runner, we can plan your training and injury prevention strategies to ensure that you're making the most of your training time.

What is included within the two-hour session?

·     A consultation surrounding your injury and running history;

·     Assessment of hip, knee, ankle & foot - strength / mobility / movement control;

·     Gait analysis on the specialist Noraxon treadmill;

·     Visual analysis and feedback on your running form;

·     Copies of your screening results and output reports from the treadmill; and

·     A bespoke running and rehab plan based on your results.

How could it benefit me?

If you're injured: This in-depth assessment can help us to diagnose your injury and establish the root cause. This can lead to faster recovery and a decreased risk of re-injury in the future. You'll also know that you're targeting your rehab to specific areas for improvement.

If you're trying to prevent injury: By identifying weaknesses, we can create a plan for you to address them before they become a problem. This is perfect if you're just starting out with running or if you're just about to make a step up to a new distance or race.

If you're looking to increase performance: Making small tweaks to your running form and improving your strength and mobility can have a huge effect on your running efficiency. By making you more efficient, we can make you faster and less prone to injury.

If you would like to know more information, or you'd like to discuss booking a Gait Analysis, please give the clinic a call and a member of the team will be happy to help.

Running Lactate Profile Testing

This test is treadmill-based, and the treadmill speed will be steadily increased over a 20-30 minute-period to help establish your ‘zones’.  This test will include the following measures: exercising heart rate, perceived exertion, and blood lactate concentration.  Blood lactate samples are obtained by collecting tiny droplets of blood from the fingertip.  These measures, when considered alongside your running speed, will determine your exercise ‘thresholds’, e.g. a set of points which define how your body changes the way it delivers energy to your muscles.  This will enable you to set training sessions, or your goal race pace, at the right level according to your body’s physiological processes.

Re-testing every 6-8 weeks is sufficient to detect significant changes, if your training activity is correctly designed.

We can adapt test duration and format to suit individual needs.  Please call the clinic to discuss your individual requirements.

Cycling Lactate Profile Testing

This test involves collecting specific Wattbike data including power output, pedal efficiency and leg symmetry.  These measures can be mapped against your heart rate, perceived exertion and blood lactate concentration in order to establish cycling-specific ‘zones’ and ‘thresholds’, e.g. popular measures called Functional Threshold Power (FTP), Lactate Turnpoint and Lactate Threshold.  You can use these measures to guide your training and racing according to the duration and intensity that is required.

The session involves an incremental test in which the cycling power demands increase over a period of 20-30 minutes.  The test will also provide data relating to leg dominance and pedal technique, which will help you to correct any major asymmetry and improve pedal efficiency.

We can adapt test duration and format to suit individual needs.  Please call the clinic to discuss your individual requirements.

Cycling Position Analysis and Injury Screening

This is a 90-minute appointment and is carried out as part of an injury screening and prevention assessment specifically for regular cyclists or triathletes athletes.  We will set you and your bike on our turbo trainer unit in our clinic in order to provide a clinical view on your cycling position in relation to a musculoskeletal screening to help prevent injury and improve your performance.

What is included within the 90-minute session?

·     A consultation surrounding your injury and cycling and exercise history;

·     Assessment of hip, knee, ankle & foot - strength / mobility / movement control;

·     Visual cycle position analysis and measured angles of cycle-specific body segments;

·     Before and after photographs of any position alterations;

·     A bespoke rehab plan based on your individual needs.

Body Composition Analysis

Your body is in a constant state of change and is influenced by regular activity and dietary regime.  This comprehensive set of measures will provide a real-time view of your body statistics:

Body composition – analysis of lean tissue mass versus fatty tissue mass, and body region skinfold thickness measured manually using skinfold calipers.

Resting cardiopulmonary function – heart rate, breathing rate, and blood pressure.

Measures, ratios, and indices – accurate height and weight measures, body mass index (BMI), and regional circumference ratios.

Testing of the above measures on a regular basis will more accurately reflect training adaptations.  For those training regularly, re-testing every 4-6 weeks can help identify an ideal state for your training or racing activities.

Bespoke 1-1 Training Packages

1-1 training and programmes are available for running, cycling, duathlon and triathlon. The packages are provided on a bespoke basis. If you are interested, please give the clinic a call or send an email to contact@m20health.com to discuss your specific requirements.
